Named after the Moon: The name selenite comes from the Greek word selene, meaning "moon." This is due to its soft, glowing appearance that resembles the light of the moon. It's often used in spiritual practices to connect with lunar energy and intuition.

Self-Cleansing Crystal: One of the coolest things about selenite is that it’s self-cleansing. Unlike many other crystals that need to be regularly charged or cleansed, selenite purifies itself, and it's also said to cleanse other crystals just by being near them!

Softness and Fragility: Selenite is a relatively soft crystal with a hardness of 2 on the Mohs scale, meaning it can be scratched easily. However, despite its fragility, it’s incredibly popular in the metaphysical community for its calming energy and healing properties.

Found in Giant Crystal Formations: Some of the largest natural selenite crystals ever found were in Mexico’s Naica Mine, where massive crystal formations (some over 30 feet long!) were discovered. These crystals are so large that they’re often referred to as “cave crystals.”

Healing and Protection: Selenite is believed to have powerful healing and protective properties. It’s often used to clear negative energy, enhance mental clarity, and provide spiritual protection. It’s also thought to be great for meditation, as it’s said to promote a sense of peace and connection to higher realms.

    Culture and Spirituality

Ancient Egypt: Selenite was valued by the ancient Egyptians, who used it in the creation of amulets, sculptures, and even as window coverings in their tombs. The Egyptians believed the stone had protective qualities and used it to aid in spiritual communication and to ward off negative energy.

Greek and Roman Beliefs: In ancient Greece and Rome, selenite was associated with the goddess of the moon, Selene. They believed the crystal could help people achieve higher states of consciousness and make them more receptive to the wisdom of the moon. It was also thought to enhance vision and insight.

Healing Traditions Around the World: In many spiritual traditions, selenite is seen as a powerful tool for healing. In Reiki practices, it’s used to clear blockages and restore the energy flow in the body. In some Native American traditions, selenite is thought to be a stone of purity that helps align and balance the chakras, especially the crown chakra.

    Crystals in your life

Use as a Cleansing Tool: Place selenite in the corners of your rooms or near entrances to protect your space from negative energies. You can also use it to "cleanse" other crystals by placing them near or on top of a selenite slab, as it’s believed to purify their energy.

Create a Meditation Corner: Selenite’s calming energy makes it perfect for meditation. Set up a space with a few selenite towers or wands, perhaps with a cushion or mat for seating. The stone is said to help enhance your connection to higher consciousness and bring about deep peace.

Selenite Lamps: Selenite lamps are a beautiful way to incorporate its glow into your space. When lit, the soft, milky light of the selenite can create a peaceful, calming atmosphere in any room, ideal for relaxation and unwinding.

Bedside or Personal Altar: Keeping a piece of selenite by your bed or on a personal altar is said to promote restful sleep and a calm mind. It’s also great for those who are looking for protection or emotional healing, as it helps soothe the mind before sleep.

Jewelry: Wearing selenite as jewelry, like in necklaces or bracelets, allows you to carry its cleansing and calming energy with you throughout the day. It’s a subtle yet effective way to benefit from its energy, especially for those who prefer a more personal touch
